I needed a super simple appetizer to take to a party recently and with strawberries in season those had to be the star. Only 4 ingredients plus skewers are needed for this and you can assembly it in about 10 minutes so it really is about as easy as it gets 🙂
Carefully wash and pat dry the strawberries, separating out the largest and most perfect ones. Rinse off the basil and remove 24 of the largest leaves.
Cut the brie into small cubes. You will need 24 small cubes for 12 skewers.
INGREDIENTS:
1 carton organic strawberries*
1 large bunch basil (enough to have leaves for each strawberry)
1 round of brie (I used Goat Brie Cheese, so yummy!)
Balsamic Vinegar Glaze
12 bamboo skewers (the glaze is thicker than just balsamic vinegar and has a richer flavor. I found it at Safeway grocery store)
DIRECTIONS:
Thread 1 strawberry, 1 basil leaf and 1 cube of brie onto a skewer. Repeat this order again. Do this for all 12 skewers.
Put the skewers onto your serving platter and drizzle a little of the balsamic vinegar glaze over them.
Voila! Instant gorgeous and delicious appetizer.
*Note: Strawberries are at the top of the list of foods to buy organic. There are more pesticides/fungicides used on strawberries than almost any other food!! This is why starting a small strawberry patch or pot of your own is a good idea 🙂
