Week 3 into my “soup cleanse” and I am feeling fantastic. I have managed to kick my caffeine habit as well. I have had a long standing love-hate relationship with coffee. I love it and feel like I need it to start the day but my body doesn’t really seem to appreciate coffee. It tends to make my energy go way up then way down and I think it makes me crave sugar/chocolate/simple carbs. Since I stopped drinking it my energy levels are more even and I have had no desire to eat sugar and/or chocolate! But I do LOVE something hot to drink in the mornings and I have not yet found a tea that hits the spot. (I like tea in the late afternoon). I tried grain beverages but anything that is remotely like coffee makes me want the REAL thing. Recently I discovered something that I am LOVING – hot water, lemon juice, fresh ginger and a bit of honey which seems to satisfy my sweet tooth for the entire day ! No more energy swings and no more simple carb cravings 🙂 It turns out that this combination is really good for the stomach, digestion and sets the body up to easily digest your food. Seems I CAN function without my morning coffee! Try it and see what you think.
RECIPE FOR HOT LEMON, GINGER & HONEY “TEA”:
1/2 inch fresh ginger, peeled and diced very small
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Hot water
1 – 2 tsp honey (or to taste)
Put chopped ginger in your favorite mug, add the lemon juice and hot water. Let steep for a few minutes then you can strain out the ginger if you want (I like the little pieces of ginger so I don’t strain). Add a few teaspoons of honey (you could also use agave syrup). Take a few minutes to relax and enjoy before you head off for your busy day!
