While I’ve always had a pretty decent knowledge of fitness and nutrition passed down from my triathlete parents, it has taken me awhile to get away from trying to “look skinny” and focus on making my body as healthy and strong as possible. I’ve always been active, but I would take a week or two off and then come back and ‘punish’ myself for that extra bowl of pasta I ate or that lazy Sunday I didn’t do anything but binge watch Netflix. This unhealthy outlook didn’t make me any more fit and sometimes caused injuries. Only recently have I come to the realization that fitness isn’t about punishing yourself or trying to work off exactly the amount of calories in a piece of pizza, it’s about connecting with your body and listening to what it is telling you.
Love that you figured this out in your 20’s! Body image for women in our culture is so challenging. You are on the right track:)
